junix jerald intal delos santos, Ph.D.

Dr. junix jerald intal delos santos is a Filipino educator and researcher whose work focuses on LGBTQIA+ psychology, genders and sexualities, social and political psychology, intergroup relations, social class and inequality, intersectionality, and qualitative research. He is an Assistant Professor of Psychology and a member of the University Research Board - Research Ethics Committee at the University of Baguio.

Dr. Delos Santos earned his Ph.D. in Psychology (Social) from the Department of Psychology at Ateneo de Manila University and completed both his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Psychology at Saint Louis University. He is a Registered Psychometrician, a Licensed Professional Teacher, and a Certified Specialist in Social Psychology in the Philippines.

His research examines how social identities, power, and structural inequalities shape psychological well-being, particularly among LGBTQIA+ communities and other marginalized and minoritized populations. He has led and contributed to projects on resilience, community mental health, and psychological interventions, with the goal of translating psychological science into evidence-based programs and public policy.

Dr. Delos Santos currently serves as Research Supervisor for a three-year Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (DOST-PCHRD)-funded project that developed a mindfulness-based resilience intervention for Filipino frontline workers under the supervision of Dr. Liane Peña Alampay. Previously, he served as Research Coordinator of Katatagan Online, an evidence-based online resilience program for Filipinos developed under the supervision of Dr. Ma. Regina Hechanova and Dr. Arsenio Alianan Jr.

His scholarly work has been published in leading academic outlets, including Social and Personality Psychology Compass and the Asian Journal of Social Psychology, as well as in book chapters published by Oxford Academic and Wiley. His research spans LGBTQIA+ psychology, political psychology, community mental health and resilience, and qualitative methodologies.

Beyond research, Dr. Delos Santos is actively involved in advancing psychology education and professional practice in the Philippines. He serves as Co-Chairperson of the Teaching Psychology Special Interest Group (SIG) of the Psychological Association of the Philippines (PAP) and is a core member of the PAP LGBT Psychology SIG. He is also a member of the Gender Justice Research Collective at the Ateneo de Manila University, where he collaborates on interdisciplinary research examining genders and sexualities.

Internationally, Dr. Delos Santos represented the Philippines in the inaugural cohort of the Global Psychology Learning Leadership Institute, where he developed a gender-responsive program addressing LGBTQIA+ prejudice and discrimination. He also participated in the Asian Association of Social Psychology Summer School and the Culture & Psychology Summer School of the International Association for Cross-Cultural Psychology. In 2023, he was selected as a Summer Visiting Doctoral Research Fellow at Boston College.

His recent collaborations include contributing to the 2024 Philippines National Survey on the Mental Health of LGBTQ+ Young People in partnership with The Trevor Project. He is also an invited speaker and workshop facilitator on LGBTQIA+ psychology, research, and psychology more broadly, having delivered talks at universities, professional organizations, and TEDx events.

 

In recognition of his commitment to teaching and mentorship, Dr. Delos Santos received the 2024 Fr. Jaime Bulatao, SJ Award for the Teaching of Psychology, one of the highest honors conferred by the Psychological Association of the Philippines to educators who demonstrate excellence in psychology education.
